GNG will become the only high school

May 2, 2013 by Michael Brakey (Register to contact)

GNG will become the only high school with two alumni winners of the University of Maine's Francis Crowe Distinguished Engineer award. There has never been a circumstance where two prestigious winners came from not only the same Maine high school, but also the same graduating class – the class of 1971. The award is given to honor outstanding contributions by University of Maine alumni and others to the several disciplines of engineering. Recent recipients of the award include John Glenn, former Senator and Astronaut, who was honored by the University of Maine, Orono for his contributions to Aerospace Engineering and to the Manned Spaceflight program. The two GNG graduates won the award eleven years apart. They are a 2002 winner, Harvey Woodsum, PhD, and a 2013 winner, Michael Brakey.

Harvey Woodsum resides in New Hampshire with his wife Nancy and two sons. Harvey founded and runs Sonetech Corporation. Mike lives in New Gloucester with his wife, Cindy, who was also a member of the GNG class of 1971. They have four sons. In 1999, Mike founded, Brakey Energy, an Ohio energy consulting firm.

Alumini Return home after 41 years

May 2, 2012 by Michael Brakey (Register to contact)

Mike and Cindy (Peaco) Brakey, Class of 1971, have returned full time to New Gloucester, Maine. Now that one of our four sons is President of Brakey Energy, Inc., in Shaker Heights, Ohio and we have been training the next generation of Ohio energy employees, Mike and Cindy can work out of their back office in New Gloucester. We look forward to reconnecting with old friends.

Mike was a GNG student-athlete that graduated from University of Maine, Orono, with an Engineering Physics degree in 1975. Cindy transferred to Orono from Bates her junior year. Cindy majored in math and was an actuary consultant for twenty plus years.
